Penryn and the End of Days

My favorite series of the summer... so far!

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my book club was reading Angelfall for its May selection, and I've since read it plus Susan Ee's second book in the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy, World After, and I am beyond hooked. This series has everything that so many others don't--a cool heroine who is super flawed but also super capable, who is after saving her family instead of getting the guy, and the plot itself is so focused on the horrifying adventure and war between animals and angels instead of romance. There's a hint of romance but it's totally on the back burner.

The characters really make this story--not just the titular one, but her mother, sister, the friends that she makes and yes, the main angel in the story. It's not flawless by any means but it's what a book should be--fun, engaging and completely unable to be put down.

Susan Ee, wherever you are, I hope you keep writing these kinds of adventures forever. We desperately want and need them. I heard that the author has a new book out this week and can't wait to read it after I finish this trilogy. Definitely check out Ee's work and see for yourself how addictive it is!
