With Christmas and New Year's quickly approaching, we've been looking into fun family read-alouds to enjoy with one another. We love seasonal read-alouds, especially for Halloween, but Christmas has been getting trickier now that our tween is a teen and not into our favorites like The Polar Express so much anymore. While she'll enjoy them when her two-year-old cousin visits, we need something a bit more advanced for her these days. I have Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King on hold at the library. We enjoyed the film so I thought we'd check out the series, but I do worry it might still hover on the young side for her.
We also have a holiday collection of romance stories called My True Love Gave to Me featuring supernatural tales about characters like Krampus. I loved this book and so far she's enjoyed a couple of stories out of it on her own, but I'm not so sure it would make a great family read-aloud.
