I think I'm going to become a Kindle Romance writer.
This is not because I enormously like romance novels or even have a more than adequate skill in the genre: "Geraldo gently ripped the bodice of her dress by the strings and softly pulled her to his bosom. Catherine yearned for his throbbing manhood." is about the best I can do. I honestly don't know if I know enough euphemisms for body parts or adverbs to tie a rather racy story line together and doubt that I would enjoy reading romance novels as research.
And, no, I have no illusions that I am this generation's Jane Austen, although that would be nice.
It's not because I have a great attraction for the Kindle either. I'm sure it's a great device, but as of yet, I haven't even used one.
Quite frankly, I would like to be a best-selling author at something and I think peddling my as-yet-unwritten Romance novel for free to the Kindle-reading masses of the United States is my only chance for the fame and desire I so desperately covet.
I'm thinking of getting a Kindle and looked at the best-seller list for an idea of titles that I might want to purchase. Topping the list (just in front of the ridiculously-titled "Conservative Manifesto") was "Deception" by Sharon Cullen. The cover has everything romance novel needs: red, white, and blue. A tan man with dark hair embracing a blonde woman. The Capitol building. The cover practically guarantees Patriotism, Romance, and Intrigue. Sounds just like the scandal about the Republican senator in the news.
Even better is the price: free. The book has only three reviews at this point in time, but has skyrocketed to the top of Amazon's Kindle sales charts, presumably because of product promotion and the price tag. (Although the three reviews on Amazon are favorable, I am somehow not convinced at the greatness or the plot or the genius of the writing.) This also looks to be author's first work, so her success is more than likely not due to her reputation. (My apologies to the author should this somehow not be the case.)
In any case, despite my lack of talent, and here-to-fore lack of interest in that particular genre, I'm pretty sure that Romance Novel writing for the Kindle is my way to fame and glory. The only downside will be the royalty checks, but perhaps I’ll make some money on my Kindle-signing tour…….
